Urine Drug Screening

There are a number of different types of drug screening devices currently available in New Zealand. DSTNZ only uses products which comply with the Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 4308:2008. The on-site screening devices, such as the Proscreen cup, screen for the following:

  • Cannabis metabolites
  • Opiates
  • Amphetamine-type substances
  • Methamphetamine
  • Cocaine metabolites
  • Benzodiazepines

A separate testing device is available to screen for the presence of synthetic cannabinoids, however if there are concerns regarding employees being in the workplace under the influence of synthetic cannabinoids, we would recommend forwarding the sample to an accredited laboratory for comprehensive analysis. The Proscreen cup and most other urine drug test cups have inbuilt temperature gauges. They often include an adulterant test area to analyse the urine sample for evidence of tampering or substitution, or evidence of a deliberate attempt to disguise or destroy the presence of certain drugs or substances in the urine. Results are available within 5 minutes. Verification certificates of the on-site screening devices are available upon request. Generally speaking, it takes approximately 15 minutes to process one individual donor. This can change depending on the donor’s ability to provide a urine sample for analysis, whether a second sample is required or if the sample is required to be sent to an accredited laboratory for confirmatory testing. At DSTNZ, we rigorously adhere to the Standard AS/NZS 4308:2008 in processing each individual donor and each urine sample. A copy of the Standard is available at www.standards.co.nz
